Julie Duclos

M.Sc. Student

I grew up surrounded by vines and scrubland in the south of France, far from any livestock breeding. During high school, I completed a one-week internship in a research lab specialized in biotechnology and environmental science, with INRAE LBE’s team in Narbonne, France. It was during this experience that my passion for agriculture, particularly animal husbandry, was ignited.

After obtaining a technical diploma in agriculture and biology in Perpignan, I made the decision to pursue a degree in agricultural engineering at VetAgro Sup in Clermont-Ferrand, France, with a specialization in animal husbandry. My dream is to become a researcher in animal science. Throughout my studies, I have completed various internships and work experiences, including working with an association dedicated to preserving a small breed of cow : the Ferrandaise, as well as conducting milk monitoring in a laboratory and working on a fully automated dairy cow farm with robots!

I also had the opportunity to participate in an Erasmus exchange program in Romania at the Universitatea de Științe Agricole și Medicină Veterinară in Cluj-Napoca, where I pursued a semester in the master's Ethology and Human-Animal Interaction. This experience sparked my passion for ethology.

Currently, I am fortunate to be completing my master's end-of-study internship at the Cow Life Lab, where I continue to deepen my knowledge of ethology and reinforces my desire to contribute to research in animal welfare and well-being.
